Recycling has become a major priority in Philadelphia, for groups as diverse as the Phillies to SEPTA to the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability to individuals opting to separate their plastics and paper and discard accordingly.

Now a group called Keep Philadelphia Beautiful, a non-profit focused on litter prevention and upkeep of neighborhoods, is launching “A Bag’s Life,” on America Recycles Day, Tuesday, November 15.

Shoppers Urged to Recycle Plastic Bags

(Greensburg) -- An environmental organization is calling on Pennsylvanians to recycle their plastic bags. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has launched a program called "A Bag's Life" that sets up drop-off locations for plastic bags at 30 retailers and 1,400 locations across the state.

Group president Shannon Reiter says grocery bags aren't the only types of bags that can be recycled.

TALLAHASSEE, FL – (Aug. 11, 2010) A musical celebrating best friends, a drama dealing with a worldwide strike and a ditty about cleaning up after a doggie are among three entries racking up votes in the final month of a video contest promoting recycling and reuse of free plastic bags. Floridians still have until Sept. 5 to enter A Bag’s Life Video Contest, with the top prize up to $1,500.
