America Recycles Day Kickoff at Virginia Capitol

With help from the Office of the Secretary of Natural Resources, Keep Virginia Beautiful and the Department of Environmental Quality, A Bag's Life will be launched.

Who: A Bag’s Life public-private partnership that reaches across Virginia

What: In Celebration of America Recycles Day, the ‘A Bag’s Life’ campaign will be launched to help increase the recycling of plastic bags and wraps across the state. It includes an informative and entertaining website to teach consumers what to recycle with their bags and offers an app to help find the closest plastic bag drop-off location, with nearly 800 sites in Virginia — and growing. A video contest for high school students also will be announced.

When: Monday, November 15, 2010
11 am to 11:30 am

Where: Capitol Square Bell Tower, Richmond

Why: A Bag’s Life hopes to motivate Virginians to recycle, reuse and reduce their plastic bags. A key feature is to raise awareness and make it easier for more people to recycle plastic bags through social media, a website, and app with locations where people can drop off plastic bags and other household product wraps for recycling.  Locations include the state’s largest grocery and home improvement retailers.
