Come See A Bag's Life at the Fair

Can you guess how many plastic bags are compressed into approximately a 3 x 3 brick? If you can, you could win a cool outdoor bench - made from recycled plastic bags - and donated to us by Virginia's very own Trex Company. Mil-tek, another Virginia company, baled the bags into the brick so we could bring you this fun contest.

It's easy to play. Just head on out to the Virginia State Fair from now until October 9, 2011, stop by the Keep Virginia Beautiful (KVB) booth in the Exhibition Hall, and take a guess! While you're there, pledge to do your part in keeping Virginia clean by signing our giant banner. Can't make it to the Fair? Go to and make a guess.

We're excited to be participating in the State Fair of Virginia again this year. We have expanded our presence and secured a more visible location to help get our message out to even more Virginians. Litter impacts all of us; that's why we're committed to educating folks young and old about ways to make a difference and help Keep Virginia Beautiful.

In addition to talking to folks about the easy and convenient ways to recycle plastic bags and the cool products they can become, we'll also be giving away free pocket ashtrays to adult smokers and continuing to educate the public on the dangers and problems associated with cigarette butt litter.

Finally, KVB will be presenting the State Fair of Virginia an Environmental Leadership Award for its outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to improving the Commonwealth's environment.

We're finding new ways every day to reach more Virginians to help improve our natural and scenic environment. Working with programs like A Bag's Life help us engage and unite people in our common cause to prevent litter.

Virginia is an amazing and beautiful place -- together we can keep it that way.

We hope to see you at the fair!
